The Dipper is best known for its remarkable aquatic habits, diving underwater to search for prey on the river bed. It is a characteristic bird of clean, turbulent rivers throughout the north and west of Britain. This book describes every species of dipper and then concentrates on the natural history of the Dipper in Britain, its adaptations to an aquatic life style, its distribution, territorial behaviour, breeding habits, diet, movements and mortality.
