Women's Health During the Childbearing Years: A Community-based Approach Peggy S. Matteson
Women's Health During the Childbearing Years: A Community-Based Approach is an exciting, new full colour textbook, for the undergraduate maternity and/or women's health nursing course. The book has a holistic focus of a woman's health perspective. It is designed to prepare students to provide realistic and holistic care while supporting the woman's efforts at self-care, and empowering her to be a partner in future care to whatever degree she desires. Since most health care decisions occur outside of healthcare facilities, the initial focus is on interactions with the individual, their family, and their community. This includes the support of complementary therapies as well as medical therapies. Nursing interactions with women during outpatient and in-patient care are then covered in the context of attaining, maintaining, or regaining health. The emphasis throughout is on providing the woman with nursing care within her family and her community, in a partnership framework that is community-based and community responsive. This unique and exciting new text carefully integrates nutrition, culture, and patient teaching throughout to stress the importance in the care continuum.
