Introduction to International Relations Résumé

Introduction to International Relations: Enduring Questions and Contemporary Perspectives Joseph Grieco

Written by three leading scholars in the field of International Relations, this textbook provides an authoritative introduction to the discipline, including coverage of security studies, international political economy, international organizations and non-state actors. A comprehensive history chapter also helps students to appreciate the key developments that created today's political landscape. The book frames each chapter around an enduring question; long-standing dilemmas that have engaged generations of IR scholars and students-such as why do wars occur, and how can economic benefits be shared more equally-demonstrating the continuing relevance of these issues and ideas. A collection of innovative learning tools equips students with the skills they need for sound analysis of today's headlines.

The textbook is ideal for undergraduate and master degree students who are taking introductory courses on International Relations, Global Politics and World Politics.

Introduction to International Relations Avis

Clearly written, comprehensive, and superbly organized, Grieco, Ikenberry and Mastanduno have set a new standard of excellence for IR textbooks. - Jonathan Kirshner, Cornell University, USA There are many good introductions to IR. There are even some very good books to be found scattered around this most crowded of fields. But this new volume by three of IR's best must surely now become the gold standard against which all other similar books on the subject will be measured. I can think of no other entry point into the subject I would recommend ahead of this one. -Michael Cox, London School of Economics and Political Science, UK Does exactly what a good introductory text should: engages the subject's enduring questions, guides readers through the maze of competing arguments, and shows the real world relevance of theoretical debates. An impressive achievement. - Dale Copeland, University of Virginia, USA This book systematically links a long-term historical perspective with major theoretical paradigms to help students understand the complexities of contemporary global affairs. Written by three top scholars, it demonstrates that outstanding scholarship and excellent teaching can go together in a mutually inspiring way. - Thomas Risse, Freie Universitat Berlin, Germany This pedagogically sophisticated book, written by three experienced teachers and respected scholars, is bound to have widespread appeal. Particularly valuable is the attention given to the connections between theory and practice, the past and present, and aspiration and reality. - Rosemary Foot,University of Oxford, UK For any student interested in learning to think seriously about international politics, this book by three leading IR scholars is invaluable. It is theoretically informed, fair-minded, and deals smartly with the big issues policymakers faced in the past as well as those they face today. - John J. Mearsheimer, University of Chicago, USA This will be hugely useful to students. Engaging and thoughtful, it shows not only how to study International Relations but why it is so important. - Nick Bisley, La Trobe University, Australia
