Spectacular gold pieces made by a forgotten civilization, the Taironas, appeared in large numbers in Colombia in the 1970s. 16th-century chronicles spoke of their ceremonial cities and eventually tomb robbers led the way to the Lost City of the Taironas in dense mountain jungle.
