New Light Popular Bible Reviews

This is a significant new Bible version offering an easy-to-read and accurate text. Sentences are short and simple in structure. The introductions to each book are written in an engaging style ... This version should be made accessible to the modern day school population. Dr Debra Reid, Tutor in Old Testament and Open Learning, Spurgeon's College This edition can only help to promote biblical study, both in the school and the wider context. I will recommend this edition to Religious Education teachers at every opportunity. Stephen Bowler, Subject Officer, Edexcel Foundation, London Examinations The great strength of the New Light Bible is the ability to combine a scholarly translation with a modern and accessible style. This makes it an ideal translation to use with young people and adults alike. John Logan, Director, BFSS National RE Centre, Brunel University In a society where everything has to be constantly updated, the Bible is no exception and this one keeps abreast of changing language use and new translation insights. It reads very well aloud. Professor Terence Copley, School of Education, Exeter University "This wonderfully clear, simple translation will make Bible study slightly less difficult for all of us." -- Nick Pollard "New Light aims to recapture the 'easy to read' style of the original Bible writers. It reads very well aloud and has a directness that faces, even confronts, the reader with the text." -- Terence Copley, Professor of Religious Education, "The great strength of the New Light Bible is the ability to combine a scholarly translation with a modern and accessible style ... An ideal translation to use with young people and adults alike." -- John Logan, BFSS National RE Centre, Brunel Univer

About Steve Chalke

More than forty-two people were involved in the detailed process of producing the New Light Bible (NIrV). These included educationalists, stylists, simplifiers and anglicisers. Together, they represent a wide spectrum of Christian denominations from around the world and the finest biblical scholarship available today, many of whom also worked on the NIV. One of their key aims was to ensure a balance between fidelity to the original biblical texts and to the accessibility of the receptor language (i.e. English). STEVE CHALKE is Founding Director of the Oasis Trust, a Baptist minister and a prolific Christian speaker and television presenter.
