Lydia, an illegal immigrant, marries Alex, an impressionable graduate and would-be actor, when threatened with deportation. Their marriage seems to progress well. Then Lydia is forced back to St Petersburg by the Home Office. Only then does he discover her past and she realizes her true feelings.
