About Sarah Cuschieri

Dr. Sarah Cuschieri graduated as a medical doctor in 2011. She studied for a postgraduate Diploma and Masters in Diabetes Mellitus type 2 at Cardiff University, Wales, obtaining a distinction in both between 2012 and 2015. Additional to her Master's degree, she was awarded the Silver Award of Excellence by Cardiff University, Wales. After completing her medical training, she took up a full-time academic and research career at the University of Malta in 2013. In 2019, she completed her Public Health PhD as well as obtained a certificate in Public Health Epidemiology from the University of Utrecht.

Dr. Cuschieri research interest focuses on population health, mainly involving non-communicable diseases (diabetes mellitus type 2, obesity), Covid-19, as well as medical-scientific writing and publishing. Several articles have been published focusing on type 2 diabetes mellitus, obesity, and medical scientific writing in international peer-reviewed journals. She made it in the top 2% of the most cited scientists in the world for the years 2020 and 2021. Dr. Cuschieri is the author of two books To Do or Not to Do a PhD? Insight and Guidance from a Public Health PhD Graduate and A Roadmap to Successful Scientistic Publishing: The Dos, the Don'ts and the Must-Knows. Additionally, she had authored several book chapters focusing on her research interests, as well as has been invited as a keynote speaker in international and local conferences.

In 2021, she won the Academic Leadership and Accomplishment Award as part of the Ten Outstanding Young Persons of the World (TOYP), Junior Chamber International (JCI).

Dr. Cuschieri is actively involved in several collaborative research projects, particularly in the burden of disease and small European states.
