This study of the extent and pattern of settlement in north Cumbria uses an ecological approach, and relies heavily on aerial photographic interpretation, survey and small scale excavation. Its conclusions overturn the established view of a Roman dominated landscape, and propose models for settlement from the Mesolithic to Romano-British periods.
