SYMBOLS OF AFRICA by Heike Osusu
More than 300 illustrations in this book show the origins and meanings of the symbols used by the native peoples of Africa. These symbols reflect the widely held belief that beings, as well as inanimate objects, are inhabited by energy. The text examines sculptures and masks from Western and Central Africa, stylized ornaments from North Africa and the Sahel zone and clothing, jewellery and hairpieces of nomadic East Africa.
