I liked the format of this book and the fact that it includes the odd, faded-looking, lined page for your own notes. There is so much interest in knitting just now, with lots of folk wanting to progress from the basic scarf. This is a good basic book of reference. Everything you want to know about knitting is here, clearly illustrated in diagrams and close-up pictures. From casting-on to cable stitch, it's all in here. From now on, my necklines will look a lot neater; I see where I've been going wrong!

...concentrates only on technique, being a compendium of 'essential skills and helpful hints from Knitter's Magazine'...It has clear illustrations and would take any knitter way beyond the basics without the need of another knitter's help. It is a great shame that this useful and portable book is aimed solely at the US market and so does not include the UK names for crochet stitches, or even an acknowledgement that they are different...Still, the way that the chapter headings are listed, web-page style, along the top of each page is a nice touch and the diagrams, plus photographs, of mattress stitch and garter ridge join are as good as they come and better than many.
