Summary

Despite the public portrayal of media mogul Hearst's legendary taste for politics, women and possessions, the private Hearst has remained an enigma due to the dearth of material on him. This biography is based on private and business papers to which Nasaw was given exclusive access.

Chief Summary

Chief: The Life of William Randolph Hearst - The Rise and Fall of the Real Citizen Kane by Conrad Black

William Randolph Hearst (1862-1951) built the world's first media conglomerate and became the inspiration for Orson Welles' epic film, Citizen Kane. Based on previously unavailable sources, including Hearst's private papers and dealings he had with Hitler, Mussolini and Churchill, this biography gives a full-bodied account of an often contradictory mogul's activities as newspaper publisher, movie producer, politician, husband and lover.
