The ways biographers bring their subjects to life are not unlike the methods psychiatrists use to uncover the self of a patient or from the ways we construct our own personal identity. Following this premise, Arnold Ludwig conducted 21 in-depth interviews with some of the most distinguished biographers working today to better examine the nature of self. Filled with comments from a group of professional biographers, along with his own clinical observations, this study explores how we construct our sense of self and investigates the personal myths that sustain us and give our lives meaning.
