A thrilling novel of diamonds, deceit and a trip up-river

Marlow's Landing Zusammenfassung

Marlow's Landing: A John Murray Original Toby Vieira

Goldhaven is after the biggest pink stone in the world. Zog Shikzahl is after Goldhaven. And Boss Macquarie is after his cut. But what on earth is an accountant from Hull after, heading upriver into the biggest white patch on the map?

Nothing is what it seems in Marlow's Landing, a tale of double-crossing smugglers and best-laid plans. And by the time you've figured out you're being played for a fool, it's too late to turn back . . .

Marlow's Landing Bewertungen

Echoes of Graham Greene, and of course, Joseph Conrad . . . A modern day homage from a writer of promise * Irish Times *
Vieira's first novel is economical, accomplished and assured; he dives into the story without wasting a word on the set-up, and the pace is fast but never rushed * The Times *
A certain sort of male novelist will always aspire to be Joseph Conrad . . . Toby Vieira's entertaining, globe-hopping debut tale of diamond smugglers wears its debt to the great man on its sleeve notes * The Spectator *
Toby Vieira's voice in his first novel is fully formed: vivid and vigorous, laconic but chaotic * Guardian *
An entertaining, globe-hopping debut tale of diamond smugglers * The Spectator *
Fresh . . . replete with Conradian echoes . . . pleasing and hardboiled immediacy * Times Literary Supplement *

Über Toby Vieira

Toby Vieira was born in New Delhi and has lived and worked in the UK, France, Switzerland and Belgium, inter alia. He has in the past taken a close professional interest in precious stones, but now works on humanitarian issues for a large international organization. If it wasn't for Marlow's Landing, he would probably be spending his free time birdwatching and pursuing an unrequited passion for the works of Joseph Conrad.
