Sarah Hatton & Martin Storey Designer Knits Zusammenfassung

Sarah Hatton & Martin Storey Designer Knits: 22 Handknit Designs for Him & Her Using Rowan Yarns Sarah Hatton

The initial idea for this book sprang from Sarah's love of the honesty of street-style photography - in particular the likes of Bill Cunningham and Scott Schuman (the Sartorialist) - as she wanted to create a collection of high-fashion knits for women and men with a slightly street edge.
Once the ideas started forming in her mind, she says she was lucky to get 'the glorious Martin Storey' on board to create the men's designs. As she says, 'Martin has long been a knitwear hero of mine and his is the king of texture. So no pressure!'
Martin, for his part, just loves designing knits for men, in particular, so the chance to join forces with Sarah on this book, with eleven designs for 'her and 'him' was a project right up his (urban!) street.
In order to create a 'his and hers' feel to the book, they set themselves quite a tight design brief using different styles/titles as a jumping off point: for example, using stripes or a 'sloppy Joe' look. They then discussed yarn preferences and colour palettes. When they exchanged their first thoughts, they were amazed to find how closely their ideas fitted together.
Sarah and Martin obviously enjoyed their collaboration and they hope you enjoy knitting the results.

Martin Storey was taught to knit as a child in East Yorkshire by his inspirational primary school teacher, Mrs. Cross, who saw nothing unusual in teaching needlecrafts to boys and girls. This experience gave him a love of sewing and hand-knitting that resurfaced in his early 20s when he studied fashion at Middlesex University. After leaving university, Martin worked as a costume designer in advertising, before joining the acclaimed knitwear design company, Artwork, for whom he worked for 15 years as a knitwear designer and pattern writer. Martin joined Rowan in 2001 and has been responsible for designing the highly successful Jaeger hand-knit collections.
