AIDS and HIV infection now touches the lives of individuals infected with the virus, their partners and wider families as well as a range of voluntary and health care workers dedicated to their care. Bereavement associated with the disease extends from the moment of diagnosis, when a multitude of losses are faced, to the times after death when a family mourns the death. Despite the fact that there is no cure for AIDS, there is much that can be delivered in terms of care, and counselling models may provide avenues of action when no other remedies are to hand.
