The American Indian Wars Zusammenfassung

The American Indian Wars John Tebbel

Before the white man came, the vast region that is now the United States was inhabited by one million Indians, organized into six hundred distinct societies and scattered from the desolate ice wastes of the Far North to the hot swamps of the South; from the great forests of the East to the plains and deserts of the West. After four centuries of nearly continuous warfare the Indians were reduced numerically to less than four hundred thousand, their lands gone and their homes a series of reservations in, for the most part, the Western United States. This is the dramatic account of their wars of survival, illustrated throughout.

Über John Tebbel

John Tebbel, who is one-sixteenth Indian, the descendant of an historic Michigan family, worked for major newspapers and magazines until he became chairman of the Journalism Department at New York University, where he divided his time between teaching and writing. Keith Jennison was a Canadian, born in Winnipeg, who spent most of his life in Vermont and New York City, where he was a legendary figure in book publishing, as well as an author of books, mostly about Vermont. Starting as a book salesman for Harcourt, Brace in 1935, he held major positions in several New York houses, and at one time headed his own. With John Tebbel, he helped found the Graduate Institute of Book Publishing at NYU, the first of its kind in the country.
