Military Survey of 1522 for Babergh Hundred John Pound
The ostensible purpose of the Survey was to provide an indication of the country's capacity to supply arms and armour in time of war, the provision of which was linked to a person's stated wealth. The information provided by the Babergh Commissioners is fuller than that for virtually every county where the material survivies; the military details apart, the wealth of material relating to the occupational and landed interests of those recorded is exceptional.
