Happy people! What do they know of the strife and turmoil of the western world? We wear ourselves out saving time in one direction that we may waste it in another, hurrying and ever hurrying through time as if we were disgusted with life, but these people think of time not in miles an hour but according to the rate at which their crops grow in the spring, and their fruits ripen in the autumn. Über Jim Goodman

Jim Goodman, an American-born writer and photographer, has been based in Asia since 1972 and works with the Thai branch of the Hani nationality, with whom he has been engaged in handicrafts production in Chiang Mai since 1988. He travels to Yunnan regularly and has published many books and articles on the province and its people.
