Many students are daunted by the size of current genetics textbooks. This introduction to the subject is presented in a form that aims to be accessible to students on a wide range of courses in biological and medical sciences. By concentrating on essential underlying concepts and introducing selected aspects of recent developments, it will serve as a stand-alone textbook for the non-specialist student and at the same time provide a sound platform for more advanced studies of the subject.
