This book is an amazing tool that can be very easily used by any teacher. Practitioners that are not familiar with the IB or the MYP will be able to understand how to incorporate concepts, ATL skills, criteria and strands, links to other subjects, learner profile attributes, formative assessments, summative tasks, and even service to their units. Everything is included and studying each page of the Guide(s) and Teacher Support Material to put the values and principles of the IB in practice is not necessary anymore. This book takes all aspects of the MYP for Language Acquisition into account and does not leave any space for doubt. New teachers will love knowing that they can find everything in one place and more confident ones will enjoy the variety of resources. The activities are diverse and respect a clear balance between all 4 criteria, respecting not only the level of the students but also the global context in which we find ourselves. My favourite parts are the way the theoretical part of strand ii for Criteria A and B (text conventions) has been included in such a clear and simple way, accessible for the students to analyse and reuse; the explanation regarding the use of patterns to easily build structures and apply them to different contexts; the reflection and evaluation tables that allow students to become more independent learners who can reflect and take responsibility for their knowledge. I have been using Spanish MYP by Concept 1-3 for some weeks and I think it is a fantastic course book to be used in IB Curriculum. It has improved from the previous version and the result is a more user-friendly book. The design is very nice and there is a big variety of activities and resources to practice the four different criteria of the language. Teachers can easily see what the objectives of each activity are and to what strand of each criteria refer. Any MYP Spanish Language Acquisition teacher, new or experienced, would benefit from having copies of this amazing resource for their students. This is a great book for schools to consider as an anchor text, or as a collection of sources to complement their MYP Spanish language acquisition curriculum. The inquiries in all chapters in the book are challenging, but include a wide variety of activities to help us differentiate. Each chapter includes SO MANY text types that intentionally target practice of strands ii and ii. All chapters evolve in a formative manner and build up to the summative assessment at the end, and you will feel how you are exploring the SOI in every activity in the book.
If you want to find a tool to help you teach Spanish addressing all the MYP elements, then this is a book for you. My students saw it and said: Finally a book that presents activities to talk about topics that we discuss in real-life!
