This text examines the issues that are relevant to the Year Five teacher. Each curriculum subject - English, maths, science, history, geography, music, art, D&T, PE, RE and IT - is tackled chapter by chapter. There are also chapters highlighting planning and organizational issues as well as PHSE. Each subject chapter provides guidance on what teachers can expect from the majority of their pupils in each subject in the way of skills and knowledge; definition of key areas for the majority of Year Five children giving a sound basis for progression; practical teaching ideas to cover the key areas and to help achieve expectations; and guidance on assessment.
