STEWART LEES studied illustration at Richmond College in West London before beginning his career as an illustrator. From 1992 to 1997 he lived in France, illustrating, painting and exhibiting in Eymet, Bergerac and Bordeaux. It was when he moved back to the north Norfolk coast that he discovered how many people there had become colonists in the first English settlement in America. He has illustrated a number of book jackets for Hodder, MacMillan and Harper Collins, and his books include Anna Growing Up on the Farm and My First Word Book (both Brimax). The Lucky Sovereign is the first book Stuart has illustrated and written.
