Summary

This handy pocket-sized guidebook contains 40 easy day walks in and around the Isle of Man. The routes range from 1 to 14 miles in length and cover a variety of landscape from open moorland and thickly wooded glens to beaches and bare mountain tops. The emphasis is on short family walks but it is possible to join routes together for a longer trail.

The Isle of Man Summary

The Isle of Man: A walker's guide by Terry Marsh

The scope for walking on the Isle of Man is considerable. Being an island, and a smallish one at that, many walks touch upon the coastline at some point, and it is probably true to say that on every walk in this book you can see the sea at some stage, ensuring that each of the walks has its own very distinctive flavour. The guide includes: 40 walks around the Isle of Man; an introduction to the Isle of Man today and in the past, the island's flora and fauna, and to walking on the island; information about getting to and around the island; an appendix including longer waymarked walks, useful addresses and organisations; a bibliography and a glossary of Manx place names and terms.

The Isle of Man Reviews

'Cicerone is a local publishing firm based in Milnthorpe and is a leading independent UK publisher of guides to walking, trekking, mountaineering and cycling in Britain, Europe and worldwide. Written by leading specialists, Cicerone guides are widely recognised as the most authoritative in their field. It seems to me that wherever you wish to spend your holiday there is a Cicerone guide available to help you to explore the countryside making your stay much more enjoyable. The Isle of Man Walkers Guide is a typical example of their well-researched, useful guidebooks. Firstly, the size of each book (11.5cms x 17cms) will fit easily into an anorak pocket. Then each walk tells us the distance, gives us a detailed coloured map, grid ref for the parking/start/finish, and most important of all - refreshments! Anything of local interest is added wherever appropriate.' (Joyce Wilson, The Keswick Reminder July 2004)
