An illustrated account of life for a British schoolchild during World War II (1939-1945). It describes how the war affected schoolchildrens' lives and how they had to learn to cope with such things as air raids, using a gas mask and with rationing. Many were evacuated from cities to the countryside for safety, where, because of food rationing the children often helped with growing food. The book explains what children's lives were like, the clothes they wore and the food they ate, placing this information in the context of the changes and growth that were taking place at that time.
