Hess: The British Conspiracy Summary

Hess: The British Conspiracy by John Harris

On 10th May 1941, an extraordinary event occurred. In many ways it was the most bizarre and inexplicable episode of the Second World War and it has never been fully explained - until now. On that spring day, Rudolf Hess, Adolf Hitler's deputy, took off from Augsberg airfield in a Messerschmitt BF110. His target was a location in Scotland and on the same evening, alone and in darkness, Hess baled out and floated down to earth - and imprisonment for the rest of his life. The generally accepted view is that Hess was on a desperate lone mission to broker peace with Britain. But what if he wasn't acting alone? What if he was enticed there by British Intelligence? What if he was lured with the full knowledge of Churchill and went with Hitler's approval? This book sets out to answer those questions and to tie up the loose ends of this bizarre historical mystery.

About John Harris

John Harris's interest in the Hess affair started back in the 1980s and his research has taken him throughout Europe. In 1995 he met and interviewed Wolf Hess in Munich and since that time has built on the shared theory that Hess was lured, or perhaps more accurately, tempted to fly to Britain by MI6. The subsequent discovery of the role that Mrs Roberts played has been acknowledged as an important discovery in the understanding of the affair. MJ Trow is a historical biographer, broadcaster, lecturer and crime novelist. As a teacher for over thirty years and author of over fifty books, he is adept at finding the kernel at the core of every subject, peeling back the layers of rumour and conjecture to reveal the real human being beneath. He engages the reader, making the subject, sometimes dead for millennia, sometimes from the recent past, live and speak and tell their story.
