Introduction by Sir Edward Russell. Rough-cut pages have light tanning and foxing throughout. Heavier to endpapers and pastedowns. Mild cracking to front hinge, board is slightly loose. Binding throughout is shaky, however all pages remain attached. Staining to fore edge of last few pages from page 343, text remains unaffected. Minor staining to front free endpaper with paper residue to top edge. Minor chips to top edge of frontispiece. Boards have moderate shelf-wear with bumping to corners and rubbing to surfaces. Heavy sunning to spine and edges with light crushing to spine ends. Gilt lettering is darkened. Severe discoloration to rear board with visible damp marks. Faint water marks overall, with occasional black marks. Book is bowed and forward leaning.
