The Seven Wise Princesses: A Medieval Persian Epic by Wafa Tarnowska
Although his kingdom is prosperous, Shah Bahram is haunted by the memory of a secret room that he stumbled across in his youth. On the walls hung the portraits of seven wise and beautiful princesses, whose faces he has been unable to forget. And so he builds seven pavilions, each of a different colour, and invites the seven princesses to leave their homelands and come to live in them. The princesses' entertaining stories of adventure, magic and miracles also teach Bahram the ideals of sovereignty - truth, patience, perseverance, forgiveness, humility, wisdom and love.
