Pocket Amigurumi Reviews

This is a well laid out book with cute Amigurumi Pokemon inspired creatures. Upon taking a first look I immediately saw several designs I wanted to make, for myself and as gifts.
The patterns are simple, with clear guidance as to whether there are any tricky or fiddly bits involved. There are lots of photos of each creature from every angle, so there is no room for doubt as to how to attach the tail, or wings, or spikes. Full size templates are given for the eyes and any other felt features, an area that can make or break how cute your Amigurumi ends up, and there is aCrochet Crash Course at the beginning, making this suitable for adventurous beginners, but thoroughly enjoyable by all.
The hardback cover makes it a little more special to give as a gift too.

A really lovely book. The projects are great fun and well photographed. The instructions are very clear with detailed instructions for the basic stitches in the front. The yarn suggestions are not too specific meaning the seasoned crocheter will probably have yarns in their leftovers stash which can be used up on many of the projects. Really pleased with this one.

Yummy little Pokemon inspired creatures.
There is an introductory section with all the stitches you will need so it's very easy to double check if you are not sure about something!
The book itself is full of pictures and the instructions are very clear so even a beginner can follow. The creatures are small and quick enough for instant gratification projects.
There is a difficulty indicator for each pattern so you know what you are getting into as well which I think is particularly useful!
The only thing that I didn't like was that the facial characteristics are made from felt and stuck with glue. I personally prefer to embroider the facial details but I understand it's not everyone's cup of tea!

Great little book and a good way of increasing confidence of new crocheters while enough complexity for experienced crafters to enjoy the challenge

The patterns are written using American crochet terms but the uk stitch term is written in brackets. Each pattern is rated in difficulty and there is something for all abilities, there is a great visual guide to all the stitches including the magic ring at the front of the book which is great for those who are new to crochet or who are unsure of the stitches. There is also a guide to making the creatures up and stuffing them as well as tips on making the eyes and mouth. The patterns also have individual template diagrams which you can trace or photocopy to make the eyes and other features that need cutting out, although personally I'm not keen on using felt and gluing it on from a safety point of view. There are plenty of pictures of each monster uincluding a full page picture of each one as well as photos from different angles and close up shots.
All in all I think this is a well written crochet book with a good variety of cute monsters to make. Sabrina Somers has taken the time to cover pretty much everything in her book.

Issue 94

Inspired by pop culture and video games, this collection of 20 mini monsters really just leaves you with one question - which should I make first?! And if your children are anything like ours, you may just find yourself making a whole set... If you start now you might just get them all done by Christmas...

Beautifully laid out book with a lovely section at the start with tutorials/tips on what to use & how to do stitches. It is mostly written using US terms but also has the equivalent UK terms in brackets next to them. The patterns themselves are adorable! They have a list at the start showing what materials you will need, along with a difficulty chart so you can find the pattern best suited to your skills :-) i cannot wait to start making all these cute creations!

I adore this book. I love amigurumi so this book is perfect. The patterns are written well and I love that both UK and US stitches are included. The pictures are vibrant and the monsters are the cutest. I am going to start working through them all asap

I love receiving new crochet books and this one will not disappoint you if you are an 'Ami' monster fan.

A compact hard back book containing hints and tips plus 20 patterns for the cutest little critters you ever did see. The tiny monster like creatures are similar to the Japanese Manga designs but in plushie form. Even the author's name is fitting it sounds like a fairy's name, gosh Sabrina I wish I had a name like yours!

Concise instructions and exact info on where to sew on the tiny pieces at the construction stage. I think this is very important with this type of crochet, or the character does not come through.

112 pages of fun, clear and concise photography as well as a crash course with illustrations on the stitches used, mainly dc/sc.

The book and indeed any creature you make from it would be a wonderful gift for a crochet fanatic, from beginner to the experienced 'hooker' aka yarn addict

The book is published by Searchpress, as are most of my fave crochet books.
