Summary
Farnor tends his father's sheep in a small, isolated village. When a band of soldiers arrives and occupies the abandoned castle, and under the leadership of Rannick, they gradually reduce the villagers to slaves, then the killings begin. When Farnor's parents are murdered, he swears revenge.
