Church as a Safe Place Summary

Church as a Safe Place: A Handbook - Confronting, Resolving and Minimizing Abuse in the Church by Peter Holmes

A thorough and well-researched seven-part handbook of how to make the church a safer place by addressing the issue of spiritual abuse. We are all looking for relationships and environments that are safe, that give us life. Sadly however, many people suffer as result of the failure to create a safe place within the church environment. Drawing upon the authors' experience in counselling those who have suffered spiritual abuse, Church as a Safe Place offers help to those who are victims of abuse or anyone committed to ensuring that church is a 'safe' place. Contents: 1. The need for a safe place 2. Types of abuse 3. Creating a safe place 4. Leadership in a safe place 5. A new model of pastoral care 6. What Christians Believe, 7. When things go wrong. A very practical, helpful book on a vital subject
