The Seleucid Empire (311-64 BCE) was unlike anything the ancient Mediterranean and Near Eastern worlds had seen. Stretching from present-day Bulgaria to Tajikistan-the bulk of Alexander the Great's Asian conquests-the kingdom encompassed a territory of remarkable ethnic, religious, and linguistic diversity; yet it did not include Macedonia, the ancestral homeland of the dynasty. About Paul J. Kosmin

Paul J. Kosmin is Philip J. King Professor of Ancient History at Harvard University. He is coeditor of Spear-Won Land: Sardis from the King's Peace to the Peace of Apamea. Kosmin has been a Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study Fellow and a PAW Fellow at Princeton University, as well as an Oliver Smithies Lecturer at the University of Oxford.
