Singing on Stage Summary

Singing on Stage: An Actor's Guide by Jane Streeton

Singing on stage can be a daunting prospect for actors, particularly for those who have not sung before. Yet singing should be an essential part of every actors toolkit. Singing on Stage: An Actors Guide gives an insight for the first time into the vocal techniques and practical approaches that have been developed over generations as an integral part of the training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. Jane Streeton and Philip Raymond are highly experienced performers and teachers; their book encourages each actor to explore their own authentic voice as opposed to offering a one-size-fits-all or quick-fix approach. Written in an accessible, friendly and enabling style, Singing on Stage: An Actors Guide is packed with exercises to develop the actors skills and gives an overview of: elements of technique how to work on a song the process of singing theatrically how to choose the best songs for you Featuring inspirational listening suggestions and the observations of successful performers and practitioners, Singing on Stage: An Actors Guide is the must-have companion for complete beginners as well as for experienced actors who wish to develop their understanding of singing on stage.

The authors of this book explain the excellent singing techniques taught at RADA, which are vital for any actor or serious drama student. My singing training at RADA has seen me through musicals and Shakespeare from Miss Saigon to King Lear. * Jonathan Pryce, Actor, Olivier and Tony Award Winner and RADA graduate *
Everything an actor needs to know about singing is here. Jane and Philip are true experts and their book should be on every actors bookshelf! * Gemma Arterton, Actress, Bafta Award Nominee and RADA graduate *
The philosophy and rigor of the [RADA] program has been distilled into this highly practical book Singing on Stage: An Actors Guide is an excellent guide for an acting student beginning their singing training. Additionally, as a voice teacher who works with actors and dancers making the transformation from single discipline to multidisciplinary performers, I found it to be an extremely useful resource in understanding and developing strategies for working with actors and in the importance of drawing out each individual actor/singers strengths. * Voice and Speech Review *
