James Whitham Summary

James Whitham: What a Good Do! by James Whitham

This title includes foreword by Carl Fogarty. James Whitham, universally popular and one of motorcycle racing's most colourful characters, won three British titles and for well over a decade was a world-class rider, competing in World Superbike, World Supersport, Endurance and Grand Prix. This frank, sometimes moving and always riotously funny account of his battles with the best in the sport, with hair-raising crashes, serious injuries and - most gravely of all - with lymphatic cancer, ranks as one of the most riveting reads in motorcycle sport.

About James Whitham

Former racer Mac McDiarmid has been a personal friend of James for nearly 20 years. He is the author of a dozen motorcycle books, including the acclaimed Joey Dunlop: His authorised biography and The Magic of the TT. A highly experienced photo-journalist, he lives on the Isle of Man.

Table of Contents

Growing up in a whacky Yorkshire family who believed in self-sufficiency. Racing, from 1983 when his dad bought him a 125 Honda, to retirement in 2003 as a factory Belgarda Yamaha World Supersport rider. Whitham's philosophy - try hard, crash, pick yourself up, try hard again - endeared him to race fans, mechanics and even race bosses. His fight against Hodgkin's Disease in 1995 - bald as an egg and pumped full of chemicals, he still crashed dirt bikes and smashed drums with his band. Commentating on the British and World Superbike series for ITV and British Eurosport. Whether bouncing through an Irish bog on his backside at 100mph or having a reluctant catheter removed, James Whitham tells it like it is.
