This is a collection of photographs which depict the original Shanghai, once commercial capital of the Far East, in the days of the Chinese Revolution. The introduction describes the momentous events by Chinese and Europeans living in the city at that time and the photographs depict the multi-racial city of swarming streets and alleys, recreated by Ballard in Spielberg's Empire of the Sun. Sam Tata has exhibited in many major collections, such as the National Portrait Gallery.
