Summary

Hailed by many as the greatest historian of all time, this is the second volume in Fernand Braudel's magisterial history of the Middle Ages.

The Wheels of Commerce Summary

The Wheels of Commerce: Civilization and Capitalism 15th-18th Century by Fernand Braudel

In the second volume in this splendid trilogy Braudel turns his attention to the markets and exchanges that, from the start, have been the real motors of change. Peddlers, merchants, fairs, market stalls, the first stock exchanges, means of travel and communication, styles of life and social mores all brought sharply and imaginatively into focus.

About Fernand Braudel

Fernand Braudel was France's greatest historian. He was the founder - along with March Bloch and Lucian Febvre - of Annales, the journal which changed the face of historical writing in the 1960s.
