Hidcote: The Making of a Garden by Ethne Clarke
The garden at Hidcote Manor was created, from 1910 onwards, by Major Lawrence Johnston, an American who spent most of his life in England. When he first acquired Hidcote, he had nothing as a basis to his garden except one fine cedar tree and two groups of beeches. Hidcote Manor Gardens in Gloustershire is now owned by the National Trust. Ethne Clarke tells the history of the making of Hidcote garden and reveals material about Lawrence Johnston.
