Hand embroidery includes a variety of techniques such as surface embroidery, couching, smocking, drawn and pulled threadwork, and bead embroidery. In this introductory guide, fiber crafters Johns (Knitted Pets) and Smith provide an overview of each of these techniques, as well as projects that provide beginners the opportunity to combine embroidery into a variety of practical and decorative objects. As this is a beginners' guide, the tutorials don't delve deeply into a particular area; rather, they provide enough to get started, allowing for exploration of an array of methods without getting bogged down in too many beyond-the-basics details. VERDICT Embroidery novices seeking an all-in-one guide to diverse embroidery techniques will appreciate this direct, introductory title. * Library Journal *
