An Atlas of Roman Britain Reviews

The management of text with the graphics and the uniformity of the graphics are something for which Jones and Mattingly deserve the highest praise ... The text itself in each chapter is authoritative and above allexceptionally readable ... There are no negatives in the Atlas to be stressed ... In sum, the Atlas is extremely useful to the scholar and informs and educates the layperson, It is a mandatory tool for anyone concerned with Roman Britain. Jones and Mattingly have set superior standards for those who seek to produce atlases of other provinces. (review of the first edition) -- American Journal Of Archaeology American Journal Of Archaeology ... a rich treasury of information and of stimulation of thought...They combine to form an important text book ... a remarkable compilation... the task of compiling all these maps (almost 260 in number) must have involved unimaginable labour, for which the authors deserve the warmest gratitude. The Atlas will be a necessary addition to the bookshelves of all those concerned with Roman Britain - and indeed with the Roman world. (review of the first edition) -- Britannia Britannia
