Kitty and Lana are victims of an over-ambitious mother who pushes them to fulfil her own dreams. Lana, the favoured one, dreams of stardom in the West End but drifts into the world of pop, Kitty, hated by her mother, is pushed by others into opera where she becomes the protege of Felix Masters.
