The Power of Small Summary

The Power of Small: How to Make Tiny But Powerful Changes When Everything Feels Too Much by Aisling Curtin

Feeling overwhelmed? This is the book for you.

'At last! A book that shows you realistically how to transform your life, one small step at a time.'
Russ Harris, author of international bestseller The Happiness Trap

Rather than waiting for the big life-changing moments, which more often than not don't happen, The Power of Small shows you how to take manageable steps as opportunities to change your life, one decision at a time -- emphasising self-compassion as a means to gently expand your comfort zone and open up new horizons.

Mixing case studies from clinical practice with the latest psychological research, the authors also share personal stories, having worked first-hand with these techniques on their own journeys towards improved mental and emotional wellbeing.

From understanding -- and learning to observe without judgement -- the traps our minds set, to breaking our of our comfort zones, The Power of Small technique is all about what is manageable in the now, and teaches us how to prioritise and know what boundaries to keep, and which to gently push.

If your mind tells you that certain life changes are unattainable, undeserved, or too hot to handle, this simple and effective book is the one for you.

Aisling Leonard-Curtin (Author)
Aisling Leonard-Curtin is a chartered psychologist, international speaker, trainer and author. She is a peer-reviewed acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) trainer and a functional analytic psychotherapy (FAP) trainer. Aisling is the co-director of ACT Now Purposeful Living and co-creator of 5 Minute Breakouts, a global movement with the objective of helping people break out of their comfort zones, for just five minutes a day. She has been at the forefront of spreading evidence-based skills to the general public and those within mental health settings in Ireland over the past 10 years. Her passion is making complex concepts easy to understand and apply. Having struggled with anxiety in her own life, she is only too familiar with feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of breaking out of her comfort zone. Aisling writes fiction and performs improvisational comedy as her hobbies. She is always looking for new ways to break out of her comfort zone and help others to do the same.

Dr Trish Leonard-Curtin (Author)

She has trained in dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) and functional analytic psychotherapy (FAP). Trish recently left CIPC within the HSE to fully dedicate her time and energy to her roles as co-director of ACT Now Purposeful Living and co-creator of 5 Minute Breakouts. Trish has struggled with depression in her own life and speaks openly about her previous in-patient admissions in adult psychiatry settings. She believes these experiences help her to understand and deliver what those struggling with depression need most- practical and tangible skills that work in the long-term.
