Baby Hunger Summary

Baby Hunger by Sylvia Ann Hewlett

'Sylvia Ann Hewlett has written a book that has not so much struck a raw nerve as ripped out an entire spinal cord and left it dangling in the air.' The Times 'the US publishing smash' Barbara Ellen, Observer 'An important new book... Hewlett has a very cautionary tale to tell.' Daily Mail 'Baby Hunger has a beautifully simple thesis... it dares to probe the childless state, refusing to accept the glib suggestion that children were not wanted or simply did not happen.' Independent 'Hewlett exposes some discomforting realities... the furor around the book all but ignores the important question Hewlett raise: How do ambitious women balance work, marriage and children? ...Hewlett's solution is a provocative one... Her idea is both bold and shrewd' Susan Chira, New York Times 'Rare, well-publicised success stories are fooling an entire generation of women into believing they can outwit their biological clocks... If women are to combine work and children successfully, they have to start planning their private lives with the same ruthlessness as their careers.' Sarah Baxter, The Times'What makes the book so powerful is the regret and anger that so many of these women express... Baby Hunger asks difficult and timely questions.' Management Today
