This work features love and betrayal in Sally Worboyes's brilliant new East End saga. It is 1970 and Kathy Dean, with her baby and a hard-working husband, is struggling to make ends meet. Johnny may have a good job at the docks but he is also an obsessive gambler. Desperate she gives him an ultimatum. Give up the gambling or she will leave him for good. However, Johnny owes favours to the wrong sort and in a wild attempt to keep hold of his famiy he tries to pay his way out of trouble by getting involved in a serious theft at the docks. But the robbery ends in disaster and a jail sentence. Kathy is supported emotionally and financially by Johnny's family but without him she gets lonely and when she meets a handsome new man she can't resist asking him to move in. When the family find out all hell breaks lose. She must kick him out or tell Johnny their marriage is over. About Sally Worboyes

Sally Worboyes was born and grew up in Stepney with four brothers and a sister, and she brings some of the raw history of her own family background to her East End sagas. She now lives in Norfolk with her husband, with whom she has three grown-up children. She has written several plays which have been broadcast on Anglia Television and Radio Four. She also adapted her own play and novel, WILD HOPS, as a musical, THE HOP-PICKERS.
