Summary
Lily Clifton is young, friendless and a stranger to London. She is also a stranger to conscience but Elisabeth Delaware, preoccupied with her own boredom and frustration, scarcely notices. Nor does she see that her marriage to solid, dependable Charles is slowly crumbling.
