Heart of England Walks Summary

Heart of England Walks by Roger Noyce

Fifty walking routes which vary in length from 3 miles to 9 miles are included in this book of Heart of England Walks, all of which have been chosen for the variety of scenic countryside through which they pass. There is so much beauty for the walker to enjoy in the Heart of England. After being part of the battleground in the early English wars, it became the home of the Industrial Revolution in the 19th and 20th centuries. Steeped in rich history, the area offers some of the world's finest castles and ancient buildings; canals which have now become major leisure attractions; and Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty which encompass some of the most superb walking in the UK. The author has selected his walks within about an hour's travel of the centre of Birmingham so that easy access is assured. The routes are all illustrated with sketch maps and photographs, and offer lovely walking in the Shropshire Hills, the Staffordshire Moorlands, the Clent and Lickey hills, The Malvern hills, Shakespeare Country, the west of Oxfordshire and North Cotswolds.

About Roger Noyce

Roger Noyce was born near Stratford-upon-Avon and educated at King Edward VI Grammar School. He has had several books published in the insurance world, and in 1992 won the Morgan Owen Gold Medal for his book Insurance and The Environment. Since taking early retirement, Roger has turned his literary skills to his passion for the countryside, and is now the successful author of a number of walking guides. Roger is an experienced and enthusiastic walker who frequently walks in the Peak District, the Cotswolds and the Heart of England, having walked the Cotswold and the Heart of England Ways on three separate occasions. He has walked Wainwright's Coast to Coast and has completed a 1400 mile 'Walking Way' route from Land's End to John O'Groats. Overseas, Roger has walked in the Alps, the Pyrenees and the Cevennes in France, and holds special memories of the Himalayas and the Inca Trail in Peru. Future plans include walking in Vietnam and, in the UK, Offas' Dyke Path, the Worcestershire Way and the Wychavon Way. He is Chairman of Stratford Group of the Rambler's Association.
