In April 1977, the author set off from Alice Springs to cross 1700 miles of desert and bush with four camels and a dog. Before she could leave Alice Springs, Robyn had to learn to ride, train and doctor camels which can weigh up to a ton. For 200 miles she was accompanied by Eddie, a respected elder of his Aboriginal tribe, who told her myths and stories of the Dream-time, showing her how everything in the wilderness fitted together in one integrated perception.
