This is the story of a summer journey on foot through Ireland, on footpaths and farm tracks, on country roads, over mountain-tops and in and out of pubs. Staying overnight in bed-and-breakfasts, taking a liquid lunch in local pubs, Robin Neillands meets the local people on their own ground and learns about the Troubles and the IRA and, on a lighter note, the secrets of pig-smuggling. One of the more surprising facts he discovered on his journey is the lack of footpaths - and when he decided to leave the lanes, roads and tracks, he found the peat-bogs of the countryside.
