Andre was born in Brighton and studied at Brighton School of Art. After his period in the services, he joined Ganmont British Animation Studios in Cookham and then went to start a career in advertising. He was with the London Press Exchange for six years and Coleman Prentice and Varley for four years. Subsequently, he left to become a freelance illustrator /designer and worked with many clients including: The Post Office, British Tourist Association, Pepsi and Michelin. During this time Andre also taught part time at Leicester University's Graphic Design and Illustration course. He lists his main influences as the poster artists Herbert Leupine and Andre Francois. For Orchard, Andre illustrated the perennial favourite The Pied Piper of Hamelin. When popular children's authors Janet and Allan Ahlberg were asked to sum up the book, they said: 'Sumptuous colour, warm characterisation, splendid layouts and great fun!' Andre has collaborated with various authors for Penguin and Heinemann. He has worked with Allan Ahlberg to create the Happy Families series and Funnybones.
