Mum Summary

Mum by Morgan Lloyd Malcolm

Motherhood. No one can prepare you for it. No matter how much you tell yourself you can do it - can you? Where's the rush of love? When will sleep again? What if the thing you fear most is also the thing you crave? All you wanted was one night of unbroken sleep, what have you done? Mum is a feverish journey through every parent's worst nightmare. A raw and real exploration of early motherhood from the award-winning writer of Emilia, Morgan Lloyd Malcolm. This edition was published to coincide with the world premiere at Theatre Royal, Plymouth and Soho Theatre, London.

Mum Reviews

a devastating picture of perinatal depression * Independent *
a bracing experience ... a bold work that focuses in a new way on the act of birth and the mad months that follow it * Evening Standard *
Morgan Lloyd Malcolm's play Mum is a courageously feverish creation that explores the darker side of motherhood. Difficult to watch at times, and brutal in its realism, it makes for a deeply affecting 60 minutes. * The Stage *
This play daringly switches tone as it follows three mothers and explores exhaustion, panic and feelings of inadequacy. Though only 60 minutes, the play is, dramatically and sociologically, a power hour. * Guardian *
