Summary
The Lycaenids are rather small butterflies - they include the beautiful Blues, the Hairstreaks and Coppers. Unfortunately many Lycaenid butterflies are becoming rare as their habitats are destroyed and two species have already become extinct in the British Isles.

About Michael Easterbrook
Michael Easterbrook read agricultural science at Nottingham University and gained an MSc in applied entomology at Imperial College, London. He is the author of the Shire Natural History titles 'Hawk Moths', 'Butterflies of the British Isles - The Nymphalidae ' and 'Butterflies - The Pieridae'.
