Queen Victoria's Maharajah Summary

Queen Victoria's Maharajah: Duleep Singh, 1838-93 by Michael Alexander

Deposed from the Punjab, the quixotic Duleep Singh converted to Christianity and bought an estate in East Anglia, becoming one of the best shots in the country and a favourite of Queen Victoria who acquired his spectacular koh-I-noor diamond. However, his extravagance and the parsimony of the India Office then led him to declare a holy war to recover his homeland from the British Empire.
